Vintage 6 Arm Jielde Floor Lamp by Jean-Louis Domecq

THE IDEAL LAMP

Indestructible, indefatigable, and watertight, the Jieldé lights were widely considered to be the ideal work lamp.

This lamp is revolutionary in its conception. With no cord, it receives electrical current via articulated copper connectors. The Jieldé can safely rotate 360 degrees and be modified using six standardized, interchangeable elements. Any positioning is possible: the lamp can be stretched out flat or shortened according to the requirements of the task at hand.

Industrial companies found it to be the ideal work lamp and ordered it in large quantities. Inspired by its success, its inventor, Lyonnais engineer Jean Louis Domecq, started the Jieldé firm in 1953, using the phonetic rendering of his own initials for its name. A fixture originally designed for Domecq’s own atelier and produced for industrial workshops, the Standard can now be found in offices and design studios. The lamp is still being produced in Lyon today, and its many virtues ensure its continuing popularity.
